Crew 1872
2009 Spring Schedule
The following events have been selected by the
elected youth leaders of Crew 1872 as events to
participate in for the Spring of 2009. The events
are scheduled planned and developed by many
different groups, so details may change as the
events approach. Links have been provided where
possible to provide additional information. The
crew uses a yahoo group to circulate messages with
additional details regarding the events.
At Civil War Reenactments generally we leave on
Friday nights about 7PM, arrive late in the evening
at the event site to set up camp. On Saturday
morning we get up, so some work details, have
breakfast, drill, lunch, and then fight the battle.
After lunch there is time to clean guns and have
free time before dinner. At most reenactments there
is Victorian Dance with is enjoyed by all. Sunday
mornings are much like Saturday with the addition of
a brief chapel service. Following the battles we
clean guns, pack camp and head home. The cost to
crew members for reenactments is $20. This pays for
food, shooting supplies and event fees.
FEB 27-28 Event – Artillery School, Grandview
Texas
This event is hosted by
Beaumont Ranch, and is staffed
by members of the
U.S. Field Artillery Association’s
“Training Cadre.” This is an 8 hour training
program focused on safety for muzzle-loading
artillery.
We will leave from Cpt. Glass’ House at 7:00 AM
Saturday morning and will return Saturday Night.
Registration is from 7:30 to 8:00am and will cost
$5.00.

MAR 13-15
Civil War Reenactment – Beaumont Ranch
This year’s
Civil War reenactment at
Beaumont Ranch is anticipated to
be one of the largest event this year. There is
some talk of making next year’s event a “national
event” so there will be many units checking out the
site at this event. The event is hosted by the
“Civil War Center of Texas” and visitor’s
information can be found on their
website.

(Crew 1872 Holding the Breastworks at
2008’s Beaumont Ranch Event)
We will leave from Cpt. Glass’ House at 7:00, Friday
night and expect to return by 5:00pm Sunday. Hope
that we have sufficient numbers to field a Company
of dismounts and server two howitzers. Look for
more information on our group emails, anticipated
cost $20.
APR 17-19
Civil War Reenactment – Mexia, Texas
This one of the crew’s favorite reenactments. It is
not too far of a drive, the site is a beautiful and
historic (Confederate
Reunion Grounds). The battleground is “compact”
but the fights are always fun. There will be
sutlers at this event and the dinner and dance that
follows is always great.
We will leave from Cpt. Glass’ House at 7:00,
Friday night and expect to return by 5:00pm
Sunday. Hope that we have sufficient numbers to
field a Company of dismounts and server two
howitzers. Look for more information on our group
emails, anticipated cost, $20.
MAY
1-3 Civil War Reenactment – Jefferson,
Texas
This will be the first time we have attended
Jefferson. Because it is such a long drive we
have plans to attend only Saturday’s battle. We
will try to leave earlier than normal, from Cpt.
Glass’ house at 6:00.
MAY 15-17 Civil War Reenactment – Temple,
Texas
This is a new reenactment and it will replace the Bellmead in the spring schedule. It should be a
well organized event. Information is already
available on its
website. Look
for more information on our group
emails concerning
return date and time, anticipated cost $20.

MAY 22-24
Memorial Day Weekend
Crew 1872
proudly supports several programs in the area
honoring veterans on Memorial Day. This year we
will participate in 3 Separate events firing volleys
and artillery salutes. We would love to have as
many members as we can at all of these events, but
understand if you schedule will not allow
participation all day. The Events are as follows::
-
9:00 AM
Memorial Service at Tandy Park, north of
the Court House, to honor the solders of the 2nd
Dragoons who served at Fort Worth, when it was a
Fort.
-
11:00 AM
Memorial Service at Oakwood Cemetery, Fort Worth. Many
members of Crew 1872 are also
members of the
Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and
will participate in a memorial
service honoring the
Civil War veterans.
-
12:00 Noon
Lunch:
We plan to eat at Joe T’s on north
main as a group for lunch.
-
4:00 - 8:00 PM
Memorial Day Event: We have
been asked by the City of Westlake to set up an
exhibit, similar to what we did at the Longhorn
Council’s Camporee this year. This would be an
Ideal recruiting event for our crew.
-
We need about 8 people to man the artillery at the
morning events and perhaps that many at the
afternoon event. I would be great to have as many
people as possible on this memorial day. There will
be no cost, except for your lunch. Look for more
details on the group emails..
